MEET SOPHIA

EFAC Scholar Class of 2013

Sophia is succeeding despite the odds. Before becoming an EFAC Scholar, Sophia lived with her two siblings, grandmother and mother in a mud house without any utilities. She was first in her eighth grade class often studying without benefit of proper lighting or enough food to sustain her throughout the day. Now she is thriving academically and looking for opportunities for leadership and enrichment.

Sophia loves singing and her passion is music. In 2009 she was a member of the Starehe Girls music group that performed at the National Kenyan Music Festival. She has also joined a new club, Junior Achievers, which develops a business and presents it to a national group of judges. With this chance at an education, Sophia's story has just begun.

All EFAC Scholars placed in the top 10% of their 8th grade class and are continuing their academic success at some of the best high schools in Kenya.
